Friendly Society Trust

In 1987, the late Bob Pitt left a sum of money in trust for the benefit of the inhabitants of the village. The Trust is administered by elected Trustees and is governed by a very specific set of guidelines contained in the original trust deed.

Trustees meet up to twice a year or when circumstances dictate. The Trust endeavours to seek out ways in which the village can benefit from the funds available. It should not be confused with the ‘Plummers Trust’ which cannot make the sort of Capital Grants that the Friendly Society Trust does.

Over the past years the Trust arranged the Village photograph which adorns many household walls and is to be seen in all the three village pubs. The cost of that exercise was considerable but it was arranged to commemorate the millennium. Benches have been purchased for the lower green and if you look there is a small plaque on each to commemorate the benefactor Bob Pitt. Large quantities of spring bulbs have been purchased and can be seen on the banks of the top green in springtime to add some welcome colour after the Winter. More bulbs were planted in the churchyard.

All the foregoing could not have been achieved if Bob Pitt had not had the foresight and generosity to make his bequest to benefit the village he obviously cherished. The Trust does not have a regular income source but from time to time receives donations from various sources. It is appropriate to record that over £1000 has been received into Trust funds over the past years in donated royalty payments arising from the hugely successful book of village photographs collated by Albert Thompson.
